Alex Setzer is a photographer and cinematographer from Baltimore, MD, currently living and working in NYC. He received a BFA in Photography & Video from the School of Visual Arts in 2017.
Influenced by cinema, Alex approaches his photographs in a way that is similar to that of a director, employing lighting and production techniques like those used on a film set.
The psychological narratives in Alex’s constructed photographs are inspired by long nighttime drives through the illusory landscape of the suburbs outside of the town he grew up in. In the photographs, light and color are used as narrative devices to intensify the tensions between the character and their environment, and project the internal conflict and anxieties of the character onto the scene.
